You'll find Flip just three miles from Portland, Maine, around the corner from Willard Beach, SoPo on the neighborhood square.


Quaint, casual, with an understated French village vibe, people of all ages stop by Flip to

  • grab a house-made pastry and coffee along their way,

  • retreat with their favorite Flip fare to a window-nook, or

  • pick a stool at the bar to chat with crêpiers, Shawn and Jessica, as they watch crêpes being made.


With limited parking on busy Willard Square, everything at Flip is conveniently prepared for walkers to take away. For guests who prefer to eat-in, Flip also offers some casual seats and space.

  • Two small window-nook tables--each table has 2 chairs

  • One standing-height counter, accommodates 4 adults

Flip is the daily passion of husband-wife team, and Willard Square residents, Shawn Rains and Jessica Bell. On many walks through Willard Beach and French neighborhoods, Shawn and Jessica dreamed and discussed how best to move-on from their respective corporate career to fun, new challenges. Then, when 429 Preble Street, #2 became available, the couple seized the opportunity to create Flip, the perfect way to pursue and share their passions for France and food with their beloved Willard Beach neighborhood.


Flip combines local Maine and authentic European ingredients with French techniques and traditions.

Local: Everything on Flip’s menu is made with high-quality, authentic ingredients. When sourcing ingredients, we look first for local sources, and expand our search internationally for specialty items.

Authentic: Shawn and Jessica completed professional-level crêpier training and certification with Mme. Marie-Laure Maigne, Atelier de la Crêpe, Saint-Malo, France, exclusive trainer and culinary school for internationally acclaimed Breizh Café.

For at least one month per year in France, Shawn and Jessica continue their French culinary training and search for delicious and beautiful ingredients and products to bring back to their neighbors at Flip.

Fresh: Everything on Flip’s menu is prepared in-house with high-quality ingredients that are whole or minimally processed.

“Besides trying, and loving, the tartiflette, I had a crepe... Like the tartiflette, it was unlike anything I’d had before. The crepe, made with Breton-style buckwheat flour, was thin and extremely light, and the fillings blended together wonderfully.”

We're a small, casual mom & pop shop focused on

high quality, authentic & delicious French cafe-type food.


Made-To-Order, To Go or Eat Here

We are casual & we try to be quick, but we are not a fast-food restaurant.

Each Flip galette and crêpe is made-to-order, which takes about 5 minutes each,

so at busy times, there may be an extended wait for your order. 

Please Seat Yourself 

We have Two Window Nooks--2 chairs each, a High Counter--4 stools

& our Crêpe Bar- 4 stools.

Our neighbor, Scoops, kindly allows our guests to use Scoops' Outdoor Tables, (late spring--summer).
